This has been one of the most gratifying uses of the barn space AND - of all things - of facebook ... Helping a young woman with a newly adopted dog that was once labeled by her shelter as Dog Aggressive due to reactivity issues.
Kizzy is a wonderful little girl, but the real hero here is her owner Kelley who responded to our plea and said 'Yes' to her sight unseen, then committed to making her the best dog she can be. The video crams two days worth of lessons into 12 minutes so it's a bit long, but I think it hits the main points. I hope you enjoy.
Excellent. Thanks for the video and the education and thanks for all you do to help these people help their dogs and kudos to this new dog owner wanting to do the right thing for her special dog. You all rock.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful video and walk-through of setting a reactive dog up for success!
ReplyDeleteThe whole time, the phrase "setting her up for success" was ringing through my head. Thanks for posting this - it's so useful for any breed. Calm, positive interactions - it works for stressed out pups and people alike! The dog adoptions you all do is fantastic, but these educational posts and videos can have such an impact across the globe.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kristina's comment above! I'm in Pennsylvania, so a long way from California, but I have a foster dog who will definitely benefit from the information provided in this video; he's been sick for the past couple of weeks but is doing MUCH better and will hopefully get the all-clear healthwise so he can start meeting some dog buddies! Thanks BAD RAP!
ReplyDeleteDonna you need to do more of this kind of videos but I know your time is limited. I learned so much. And Kelly, (hope she's reading this blog), you have a heart of gold for adopting this little girl almost sight unseen. Best wishes for you and Kizzy.
ReplyDeleteGreat video. This video can help so many people and their dogs. Thanks again for the education. We can never get enough.
ReplyDeleteDonna, Thank you for this incredibly informative video. Yet another example of "Label me Not"! This video should be used as a training tool for shelters. BIG hug to both Kelly and Kizzy for being so brave. They make a great pair! :)
ReplyDeleteAWESOME video!!! please post more like this when time allows :) so much helpful information, THANKS!
